Artrageous Art Scene

One of my favorite things to do in Columbia is explore the art scene.  And one of the easiest ways for newcomers to sample it all at once is to attend tomorrow evening’s Artrageous Fridays.  Held quarterly, this event celebrates photography, dance, music, sculpture, drawing, painting, pottery, jewelry, and pretty much any other type of art you can think of.

My recommendation?  Start the night at the Columbia Art League.  You might need to wash your hands after wandering among the lust, greed and wrath in the current exhibit “The Seven Deadly Sins”, but it is fun to see locals in full sin.  Then head to Orr Street Studios.  This unique warehouse houses 28 artists in 19 working studios.  Many artists will be on hand to discuss their work, but ask them about their custom-made doors, too.  When you are full up with inspiration and creativity, unwind at the upscale and sophisticated Room 38.  Last time I was there, they made me this amazing hot martini (delicious!).  And don’t forget your gift certificate from the newcomer welcome basket, since you have a coupon for $15 off a $25 purchase.  It’s truly Artrageous!
