Here are some local events we’re looking forward to this month:

Shelter Insurance Annual Spring Fountain Celebration // Thursday, May 4th

Join our friends at Shelter Insurance on Thursday, May 4th at 5 PM for an evening full of fun at the annual fountain celebration! The fountain will be turned on at 5 PM, then the rest of the activities will begin - Kona Ice and other food trucks will be on site, face painting, an inflatable obstacle course, and more! You won't want to miss this fun event!

North Village Arts District First Friday + North Village, Art Walk Celebration // Friday, May 5th

Stop by the North Village Arts District Friday, May 5th from 6 PM - 9 PM for a FREE art crawl! This event is held on the First Friday of each month in the North Village Arts District. Explore the unique boutiques, art galleries, studios and small businesses while enjoying live music, art and entertainment! Find the live music under the Art Lives Here! (A big lit sign on the archway truss between Sager Reeves Gallery and Aartlandish on Walnut Street.) There will be be free lemonade, popcorn from GoPo, art activities for kids and more! Don’t miss this family friendly and community wide program, generously provided by Veterans United Foundation.

True Tiger Fan Day at Mizzou Arena // Saturday, May 6th

Fans have spoken and University of Missouri Athletics has added a Columbia stop to the 2023 Come HOME Tour!

The inaugural True Tiger Thank You Fan Day takes place on Saturday, May 6 at Walsworth Plaza outside of Mizzou Arena. The day, a thank you to Mizzou fans for their support during the 2022-23 season, features the Truman's Trot 5k, the annual athletics tent sale, fan day activities including a Kids Zone, beer garden, food trucks, local treats and autograph sessions with Tigers football players.

The day closes with Mizzou baseball taking on Ole Miss at 2 p.m. CT inside Taylor Stadium and The Tigers softball team playing Arkansas at 4 p.m.

All parking lots will be open, excluding J and K.

TRUE TIGER FAN DAY TIMELINE (May 6, 2023)
9 a.m. – Truman's Trot 5k Starts
10:30 a.m. – Tent Sale Opens / Fan Day Starts
11 a.m. – Mizzou Football Team Autographs Begin
12 p.m. – Mizzou Football Team Autographs End
1:30 p.m. – Fan Day Ends
2 p.m. – Baseball vs. Ole Miss
4 p.m. – Softball vs. Arkansas

Fan Day Includes:
• Tent Sale
• Kids Zone, including Bounce Houses, Slides, Yard Games, Carnival Games, Face Painter and Balloon Twister
• Beer Garden – All beer will be sold at discounted prices
• Food Trucks / Local Treats
• Football Team Autographs / Meet & Greet (2023 Mizzou Football schedule posters will be available)

Curated. Crafted. Created. Spring Market at Columbia Center for Urban Agriculture // Sunday, May 7th

Join 60+ local vendors, artisans and makers on Sunday, May 7th from 10 AM - 4 PM at the MU Healthcare Pavilion to start your Mother's Day shopping! Henna art will be available to attendees via M-Ethnics and Mother's Day mini photo sessions available from Liv Strange Photography. Enjoy this local, spring event planned by Andrea Lyn Events.

History on Elm: Celebrating the 125th Anniversary of the State Historical Society of Missouri // Tuesday, May 9th

Founded in May 1898 by the Missouri Press Association and established as a trustee of the state a year later, the State Historical Society is the premiere organization that collects, preserves, and shares Missouri history. Bob Priddy, former news director of Missourinet, trustee and past president of the State Historical Society, will interview SHSMO executive director Gary Kremer about the Society’s legacy and future.

History on Elm series celebrates the 125th anniversary of the founding of the State Historical Society by exploring a variety of topics the second Tuesday of each month from noon - 1 PM at the Center for Missouri Studies in Columbia. Movies in the Park at Cosmo Park // Friday, May 12th

Movies are shown on a giant inflatable screen at Cosmo Park, so grab a blanket or lawn chair (and maybe a favorite stuffed animal) and join in the fun under the stars! The Bad Guys(PG) is showing on May 12th at 8:30 PM. Get there early for concessions and to grab a seat.

Goat Yoga at Pierpont General Store // Sunday, May 14th

Goat Yoga at Pierpont General Store in Columbia, MO is back! Located in the heart of beautiful Rock Bridge State Park. Part Yoga, Part Animal Assisted Therapy. Take part in this unique and memorable experience. No yoga experience needed. You can disconnect from day to day stress and experience beautiful, unique location and these sweet animals. Come early for brunch and bottomless mimosas (not included with purchase of a goat yoga ticket) and stay after for live music!

Please arrive at least 15 minutes early for registration. You can bring your own mat, or rent one for $5. Check off an item on your bucket list by experiencing Goat Yoga of MO at Pierpont General Store!

Family Fun Fest at Cosmo Park // Wednesday, May 17th

Entertainment for the entire family will include music, food trucks, live performances, art activities, hands-on learning, face painting, balloon art, and fun for all! May is Mental Health Awareness Month. This month, embrace the healing power of nature and learn how to care for Earth and ourselves. So take a deep breath of fresh park air, and join us to learn about pollinators, native plants, and self-care.

2023 Missouri Beer Festival at Lakeside Ashland // Saturday, May 20th

The 13th Annual MBF takes place at the All-New Lakeside Ashland, Saturday, May 20th from 1 PM -4 PM. Enjoy all the Craft Beer, Friends, Live Music, Great Food and Good Times you've always found at MBF!

Spring Maker Market at The Loop Community Pop Up Lot // Sunday, May 21st

Stop by The Loop Pop Up Park between Dave Griggs Flooring America and Crazy Good Burrito for their Spring Maker Market! Local Makers and Artisans of all kinds. Baked goods, jewelry and paper goods! Find gifts or simply treat yourself while supporting local!

Tons of Trucks at Columbia Mall // Wednesday, May 24th

Trucks and other vehicles of all shapes and sizes will be on display for admiring, climbing, sitting in, and horn honking! This event is held rain or shine! (For families of children with sensory sensitivities, they also host a Sensory Friendly Touch-a-Truck in October. The August Leisure Times activity guide will contain more details)

Pedaler’s Jamboree 2023 // Saturday, May 27th

Bicyclists depart from Columbia, MO, on the morning of Saturday, May 27th, from Flat Branch Park (101 S 4th St, Columbia, MO 65201). Drop off your overnight packs at check in and prepare for a weekend of relaxed bike riding, music, and fun. Enjoy the scenic views of the Katy Trail State Park as you ride on crushed limestone trails flanked by cliffs and the Missouri River. Stop at your convenience at a handful of locations to enjoy live music and entertainment. Bands will play throughout the day in communities across the trail.


The final destination, Boonville’s Kemper Park, will host the feature events with main stage music. Overnight camping will be available and free for all registered riders! Hotel/motel accommodations are available at local establishments. There will be food available at restaurants throughout Boonville as well as food vendors at the park. On Sunday, ride your bike back to Columbia with music again throughout the day! Your bags will be waiting for you upon your arrival back to Flat Branch Park!

For non-riders with ticket passes to the Boonville festivities, gates open at 4 PM on Saturday, May 27th. Kemper Park is located at 757 3rd St, Boonville, MO 65233. Free street-side parking will be located nearby.
